I have been seeing posts on Facebook for a friend who is very ill. I have been learning for him and translating what I have been learning into my own expressive art form. Its called AmudArt. This is from the Mishnah in Tannis 2a. If you want the vector ill you can get it by clicking the link below. I did this sketch on the bus coming into Jerusalem. Terror is in the news. Not only in Israel but around the world. All too often our first reaction to a terror attack is too look at the numbers. Body count, those wounded and how many terrorists committed the carnage. Do not be fooled, the numbers lie. Because the news feed forgets to count the "lucky ones". Those "lucky" people who find themselves amidst a terror attack and walk away unscathed. That's just it, they are not unscathed nor lucky. People that have witnessed a terror attack are wounded beneath the surface, to the psyche. Wounds that can last a lifetime.
This article in Mishpacha Magazine 587 touches this very topic. An important read Kudos to Simi Eisenbach who was able to capture this feeling on paper. so strong Creative Director: Menachem Weinreb Design: Simi Eisenbach My home phone rang Motzei Shabbos. I didn't have my cellphone with me. Its a calculated choice. I hate my cell phone. Hate is a strong word, I hate my cell phone. My phone is dated, old and texting on it is nasty. I think i could text faster on a rotary phone then I do with this device. I picked up the phone, it was production. "The photoshoot that was supposed to happen on Friday fell through." Freak! We had plans about this photoshoot. The editor and I did research, thought about the appropriate mood, and now the whole thing looked like it wasn't going to happen. "Lior is on the way to Beni Braq ( i love the "q" its soooo middle eastern) and is going to take the pictures". Massive! Lior is a fantastic photographer and he was on route to the photoshoot. I was doubtful that we would get the pictures in the way we wanted, but I explained the idea we had to Lior regardless. Who knows? Maybe it would work out. And it did. In the end, I loved the fact that production was on it, I loved the pictures, and I love the cover. But I still hate my phone.
